Sorry I haven't written in like...a week, which in current events is more like a year. A ton has been happening this week, but like the typical American teenager (or American...period), I have been too wrapped up in my job to take the time to wake up early, read the paper, and then start working at a reasonable time and still keep up with the world. Still, I am not completely sheltered, becuase yesterday, I received a direct e-mail.
If you look back to my first post, I talked a little bit about the political corruption in El Salvador and how FMLN finally won over the right-wing ARENA political party...and that, hopefully, this would bring about change. The e-mail I received, however, says otherwise. One department (like a state) of El Salvador is called Cabanas, and it is one of the few areas where ARENA is apparently still prevalent and the right-wing are still in power in the local governments. According to this source, from the founder of Radio Victoria, a liberal radio station, she and other staffers have been receiving death threats that they will end up like Marcelo, the man who went missing, if they continue. Out of all the places where there is death in the world right now, I know this may not seem like a big deal. But innocent people are in danger in El Salvador, so please try to care. Try to write to your representatives, or post on a blog, or somehow inform yourself a little more about what's going on. Keep up the pressure to protect the innocent!
We, like true Americans, are defending freedom of speech, here!
