I haven't written a blog post about song lyrics yet, I don't think, but I really like them. And in the age of gchat and facebook status messages, lyrics have become very useful. I've started learning which musical artists have the right lyrics for status messages in general and categorized by mood...no just kidding. I'm not really that organized, but one artist who has a lot of lovey-dovey songs that I...love (not to be repetitive) is Ingrid Michaelson. She has one song called "The Way I Am," and it is possibly the sweetest song I've ever heard. The chorus changes each time, but fits the mold of "I love the way _________ and you take me the way I am." It's the perfect lyric to me because it doesn't portray love as lust or even something that makes you have crazy emotions, but just as something that completes you, balances you out, but does not make you change. Also, it's not just Ingrid saying how great her guy is for always loving her for who she is, but she reciprocates. The full lyrics are here:
If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light? I'd find a match.
'Cause I love the way you say 'good morning' and you take me the way I am.
If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better,
'Cause I love the way you call me 'baby' and you take me the way I am.
I'll buy you rogaine when you start losing all your hair,
sew on patches to all you tear.
'Cause I love you more than I could ever promise and you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am, you take me the way I am.
Simple, but...true life. As one of my friends likes to say.
